DD17 No.1049

This locomotive is one of 12 'DD17' class 4-6-4T engines built by the Queensland Government Railways from 1949 to 1952, and used to haul suburban trains in Brisbane. The DD17 class was a modern steam locomotive design, with roller bearings on all axles and many welded components, and an improved version of the earlier D17 class. Three DD17's are preserved on the Zig Zag, and all have worked on the line at some stage. |
No. 1049 was restored in 1994, and is seen running around her train at Top Points. The maroon livery is not authentic for a DD17, unlike the blue livery carried by 1047.
