Professional Experience


28 April 1997 - Present    IBM Global Services (formerly ISSC)     Sydney, NSW
LAN Support Specialist

  • Installed, tested and maintained Client Server applications on the LAN
  • Provided support and administrative functions as a LAN Administrator on an NT Server LAN
  • Team leader of PC replacement program and Exchange Server 4.0 upgrade for 500 LAN clients
  • Provided assistance in more complex support issues as part of the call escalation process
  • Developed and documented procedures used by LAN and IT Support staff
  • Conducted server software upgrades as part of Y2K remediation project.

Administrative Service Officer (IT Support Officer)

  • Provided technical support for mainframe systems, PC hardware and software applications.
  • Performed Help Desk duties on a roster basis.
  • Developed integrated solutions for clients using the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Developed documentation of procedures for IT personnel.
  • Supervised Help Desk and service technicians.
  • Developed a certificate of attendance generation system using Visual Basic for the department's highly successful Australia Remembers commemorative events.

  • Implemented the replacement of 300 PC and mainframe terminals with upgraded equipment.

  • Prepared and checked pension payment authority forms for entry into mainframe system.
  • Checked output of mainframe system entries with authority forms to ensure output was correct and adhered to legislation.
  • Maintained and updated taxation records for pensioners in NSW.
  • Maintained ledger and journal entries and reclaimed expenditure from the United Kingdom for expenditure made on behalf of the United Kingdom.
  • Suggested and was responsible for conversion of manual ledger system to PC based spreadsheet system resulting in other manual ledgers also being converted to similar PC based systems. This resulted in three positions being merged into a single position.

Hobbies, interests and activities

Reading (primarily Science Fiction and Information Technology related books and magazines). Going to the movies. Experimenting with new computer related technologies (HTML, Java etc).

Experimenting with new PC hardware and software. Developing my knowledge of Internet publishing techniques and new IT developments. I spend time in various Usenet newsgroups assisting people with problems they have with applications or systems that I know.
