The Ragged Band

Founded by singer/songwriter Carrl Myriad in 1987, first established itself as a “Bush Band” playing around Sydney and the east coast of Australia. Through the years the band explored other genres of music ranging from rock to country to folk until they developed a passionate interest in the traditional music of the Celtic cultures led by Carrl’s deep involvement with his Cornish ancestry.

By 1995 the band had focused completely on Celtic music applying their own style to the tradition. Their performances include Breton and Cornish dance tunes and songs in the Welsh, Cornish and Gaelic languages as well as their own Australian-Celtic works that both celebrate and extend the tradition.

The Ragged Band

Evokes a wild Celtic rabble, dancing through a misty green forest.  King Arthur and Ned Kelly stand side by side in their repertoire of jigs, hornpipes and ballads from Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, Brittany, Wales and Australia.

Singer, songwriter, Carrl has produced and arranged recordings for other artists.  He has worked for many years in folk, country and rock bands.  He has also recently released a solo CD.

Chris Lofven - Vocals , Bass
A sought-after session player in various styles Chris is also a noted film-maker.  He wrote, directed and produced the cult classic"Oz".

Jacka Coyle - Whistles, Vocals
From Britain's West Country,Jim played all over Britain with his band "The Navigators"
Also a composer, his Tango for Organ was recently performed in France after being broadcast on 2MBS

Alex Cronin - Fiddle, Harp
Multi-Instrumentalist Alex is a student of medieval music. He spent years in Europe studying the lute.He is now a virtuoso on this instrument.

The Band has produced three CD’s which feature a combination of traditional and contemporary songs and tunes that show the groups ever deepening commitment to their Celtic heritage.
