What is
Epiphany?
EPIPHANY is an Association for Catholic priests who have left official
Church ministry, and for their partners and families, and for those people who
support Epiphany’s aims. It was founded in Brisbane, Australia, in 1994, by Jim
Madden formerly of the Toowoomba diocese.
Epiphany enables its members to identify, articulate and manage
issues and concerns, which relate to ordained Catholic priests who have left
active ministry, and to their partners and families, and those who support
them.
WHAT DOES EPIPHANY DO?
These things mainly:
* To provide understanding and support for those who are leaving/ have left
official ministry;
· To
relieve poverty, sickness, suffering, disaster, destitution or helplessness of
the members and their dependents, directly and without discrimination;
· To
support our advocates within Epiphany who liaise with the official church
concerning issues of justice;
· To
provide a community and a network for Epiphany members;
· To
explore and provide possibilities for spiritual growth;
· To
establish a theological forum.
MAIN OUTREACH ACTIVITIES:
* Links with other marginalised groups;
* Publications:
Cross
Reference Journal; Cross Reference Newsletter;
and Favourable Time.
* Financial support for needy members;
* Dialogue with the Catholic bishops, and the National Council of Priests;
* Network with other church reform groups;
* A campaign for optional celibacy;
* To gather and maintain resources needed for these goals-
including a policy of
collection and the spending of funds.
VALUES:
* Commitment to the Gospel;
* Support of that which is genuine and mutual;
* Affirming that which is human and realistic;
* Praying for the courage this requires.
